Project Introduction:
As Vietnam’s economy continues its rapid growth, the demand for steel materials from manufacturing, construction, and infrastructure development has sharply increased. In response to the national “Industrial Modernization” strategy and to enhance the self-sufficiency of the local steel supply chain, a large Vietnamese mining client invested in a 250 metric tons per hour (TPH) iron ore crushing and screening production line in the iron ore-rich area of Thai Nguyen Province. The project is designed for the efficient primary processing of run-of-mine iron ore, producing qualified ore concentrate that meets the local steel mills’ furnace-feed requirements. This system establishes an efficient “Mine-to-Mill Direct Supply” model, promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam’s steel industry.
The project utilizes a mature and highly efficient “Two-Stage Crushing + Closed-Circuit Screening” process. Equipment selection fully considers the high hardness and strong abrasiveness of iron ore, ensuring long-term stable operation of the system.
Core Equipment and Process Flow
Main Equipment Configuration:
Vibrating Feeder:
- Responsible for uniformly and continuously feeding the blasted iron ore raw material to the jaw crusher.
- Equipped with a heavy-duty grizzly bar screen for pre-screening to remove soil, debris, and fines, preventing clogging, protecting the main equipment, and enhancing overall line efficiency.
Jaw Crusher:
- Serves as the Coarse Crushing core, processing iron ore with a maximum feed size of up to 850 mm, with the output size controlled between 150-200 mm.
- Features high-strength alloy steel material and an optimized crushing chamber design, offering a high crushing ratio, low energy consumption, and long service life, suitable for continuous operation on high-hardness ore.
Single-Cylinder Hydraulic Cone Crusher:
- The key equipment for Medium-Fine Crushing, performing secondary crushing on the jaw crusher output.
- Features a hydraulic adjustment of the discharge opening and an overload protection system, ensuring high automation and easy maintenance.
- The laminated crushing principle ensures the production of iron ore products with uniform particle shape, minimal flakiness/elongation, and high degree of liberation, which is beneficial for improving the efficiency of subsequent ball milling and beneficiation.
Multi-Layer Vibrating Screen:
- Configured with three screen decks for precise classification of the cone crusher output, typically separating into:
- 0-15 mm: Suitable as sintering raw material or fine product.
- 15-40 mm: Meets the size requirements for blast furnace feed and can be supplied directly to steel mills.
- >40 mm: Returned to the cone crusher for re-crushing, forming a closed-circuit loop to ensure stable finished product gradation.
- Features high screening efficiency and strong processing capacity, adaptable to damp and sticky materials.
Process Flow Summary:
- Blasted iron ore is transported from the mine to the production line via truck.
- The material is uniformly fed into the Jaw Crusher via the Vibrating Feeder for coarse crushing.
- The coarse-crushed material is conveyed by belt to the Single-Cylinder Hydraulic Cone Crusher for medium-fine crushing.
- The crushed material enters the Multi-Layer Vibrating Screen for classification.
- Qualified finished product (15-40 mm) is output via belt conveyor and loaded directly for transport to local major steel mills, such as Thai Nguyen Steel Plant.
- Oversize material (>40 mm) is returned to the cone crusher, and the fine material (0-15mm) can be used as sintering raw material or sold externally.
System Features:
- Stable Capacity: Designed capacity of 250 TPH, with an annual processing capacity exceeding 1.8 million tons.
- Automated Control: Equipped with a PLC centralized control system for remote monitoring, fault diagnosis, and data management.
- Strong Durability: Key components are made of wear-resistant alloys, enabling long-term operation on high-hardness iron ore.
Positive Impact on Vietnam
- Ensuring Stable Raw Material Supply for Steel Mills and Reducing Production Costs: The production line directly provides locally produced, standard-compliant crushed iron ore to local steel mills. This reduces intermediate links and transportation distances, significantly lowering the steel mills’ procurement and logistics costs, and enhancing supply chain security and efficiency.
- Promoting the Localization and Self-Sufficiency of Vietnam’s Steel Supply Chain: The project reduces reliance on imported crushed ore or pellets, enhancing the processing and utilization level of local iron ore resources, and helping Vietnam establish a complete “Mine-to-Steel” industrial chain.
- Fostering Regional Economic Development and Employment: The project directly creates over 50 technical and operational jobs and stimulates the development of supporting industries such as transportation, power, and maintenance, injecting economic vitality into industrial hubs like Thai Nguyen and Ha Tinh, and raising local residents’ income.
- Improving the Comprehensive Utilization Efficiency of Mineral Resources: Through scientific screening and closed-circuit circulation, the project maximizes the utilization of iron ore resources and minimizes waste. The classified fines can be used for sintering or comprehensive tailings utilization, promoting the development of green mines.
- Supporting Major National Infrastructure Construction: The efficient supply system for steel raw materials provides solid material assurance for Vietnam’s major projects, including expressways, bridges, ports, and industrial parks, accelerating the national modernization process.
- Leading the Mining Technology Upgrade: By adopting advanced crushing and screening technology, the project sets a benchmark for efficiency, intelligence, and environmental protection for other mining enterprises in Vietnam, driving the entire industry toward modernization and intensification.
